Fahrradfahren in Wien

Hallo Roland,

zum o. g. Artikel würde ich Dich gerne fragen, ob Du dabei behilflich sein könntest, die VCard Daten (GPS Koordinaten) der Fahrradgaragen für die mapframe zu korrigieren, da ich den Umrechner wegen der Rechnerkapazität nicht benützen kann. Hi Roland, the map inside the article in the subject should shown all the articles in it:voy (whose coords are valid). The map is shown through this link: https://wikivoyage.toolforge.org/w/poimap2.php?lat=25&lon=6&zoom=1&layer=WD&lang=it&name=Tematica:Destinazioni.

The problem is well-known, and it seems not solvable after a short term. All the data and scripts are hosted on WMFLabs Toolforge-Server. Unfortunately I have no access to this server and can only give our experiences got from outside. From WV tool information you can learn who is responsible for this server.

Base of the nearby articles map is a file like it-articles.js. This file is outdated from December 1, 2017. Since this time there was no updating. Some time ago, I made a documentation of the scripts of Mey2008 and I learned that we can manually update this file in principle by use of the geodata.php script. You can start this script by entering https://wikivoyage.toolforge.org/w/geodata.php?group=it in the URL line of a browser. The script needs about three minutes to update the file. This file is generated from Wikimedia WV dump which is updated every month. Unfortunately there is a job on the Toolforge server which overwrites the new file by that of December 1, 2017 after a few days. Therefore we at German Wikivoyage resigned to make these update manually.

The current solution is not future-proof. Also the software engineers from WMF do not like it, see WikiVoyage nearby articles map layer loads a JS file from toolforge. To overcome this problem, I made a proposal at the Community Wishlist Survey 2020, but there was no success because of missing community support. I have no idea who can make a new better software solution. Fortunately, WMF restarted to support Kartographer maps, but the nearby articles problem is of minor priority. --RolandUnger (Diskussion) 16:58, 9. Mai 2020 (CEST)

Is it possible to ask for an access to WMFLabs Toolforge-Server? I've seen that Atsirlin is one of the maintainers and maybe he can grant the access to us.

I've launched the script but I got the following error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 124806387 bytes) in /data/project/wikivoyage/public_html/w/geodata.php on line 124

I've seen that https://wikivoyage.toolforge.org/w/geodata.php?group=de succeed, while https://wikivoyage.toolforge.org/w/geodata.php?group=it abort with the error I've written above. I've understood why the it script fails. For it, fr and sv the script try to load in memory at once the whole bz2 file but it's too big to be manged. ┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ There is no need to reactivate artmap, because it is done by Kartographer (in nearby mode) in the same manner and using the same Javascript file: see the world map on Wikivoyage:Artikelübersicht. Long time ago, we decided to replace all toolforge server applications if possible because of vague support of these tools. We wrote some Javascript tools to have a better Kartographer functionality which makes this site almost independent of the toolforge server and allows the community to adapt the scripts easily.

At the moment devoy uses only geomap for coordinate picking. But I hope that we will get a (Javascript) replacement for this tool, too. But there are other problems with the toolforge server: Since a few days browsers block third-party requests which means that external tools will maybe not work any longer (see also phab:T172065, phab:T244691). I think the WMF developers will also look for a replacement of using a JavaScript file from the toolforge server for nearby maps.

Now I am busy so it will take some time to review the toolforge tools. I am focusing my work on improvements of our mapping and listing scripts because of higher priority for our readers (and on writing new articles). Within the next months I will look for a solution to make the ListingEditor working on mobile devices, too. Relationen und Karten

Lieber Roland, aus dem Anlass, dass ich mal was zum Täuferweg im Kanton Schaffhausen machen möchte, wir haben die Teilstrecken kürzlich abgelaufen, habe ich mich mal mit Relationen, etc. befasst. Das heisst zunächst alle Wegsegmente auf OSM eingepflegt, dann diese als Relation zusammengefrickelt (wird nun auf der Karte im OSM Relation Analyzer sogar schön angezeigft, nun die Relation in Wikidata verlinkt und nun schaue ich mal, ob sie nach einiger Zeit in Mapframe auftaucht. So müsste es ja gehen.

Auch ein Projekt wäre es, den Artikel Wutachschlucht auszubauen.
Das müsste ja eigentlich möglich sein, auch die Karte mit einer Relation aus der OSM zu füllen. Es gibt ein paar Relationen, die schauen schon ganz gut aus, wenn man im Relation Analyzer nach Schluchtensteig sucht: hier.
Nur scheint die Superroute (als erste Position) leer zu sein, kannst Du die Füllen, dass die Schluchtensteig - Segmente zusammengefasst sein, und dann könnte ich sie schon in Wikidata (Q2244967) verlinken, es macht wohl nicht recht Sinn, alle sechs Etappen einzeln zu verlinken, oder?

Fahrradfahren in Wien

Hallo Roland,

eine Frage zum o. g. WV Artikel:

Ich habe lange innerhalb der Wikimedia Netzwerke nach einer Übersichtskarte gesucht, welche die Hauptradrouten in Wien anzeigt, aber keine finden können, um Sie in den Artikel Fahrradfahren in Wien einzustellen, ich kann keine downloaden und einstellen weil mein Internet dafür zu langsam ist, könntest Du einmal schauen ob Du eine Karte der Wiener Hauptradrouten finden und einstellen kannst? Text schreiben ist mit meinem Rechner kein Problem, ich könnte dann z. B. eine Auflistung der Radwege mit grobem Verlauf und Wechselmöglichkeiten und wichtigen Zielen dazuschreiben.

Listen von Städten und Gemeinden

Hallo RolandUnger! Welchen praktischen Nutzen haben Listen wie diese? Warum sind vereinzelt Artikel von Orten enthalten, die keine Stadt/Gemeinde sind? Sollen sie aktuell gehalten werden? Gruß! --Hamsteraner (Diskussion) 18:54, 29. Sep. 2020 (CEST)

@Hamsteraner: Die Listen dienen in erster Liste Verwaltungszwecken: fehlende Artikel und Artikeländerungen. Sie könnten auch Basis eines Stichwortverzeichnisses sein. (Kategorien spielen in Wikivoyage nur eine geringe Rolle.) Was Städte und Gemeinden anbetrifft: viele Ortsteile sind zwar politische/verwaltungstechnische Bestandteile von Gemeinden, aber geografisch vom Oberzentrum entfernt/getrennt. Hier soll prinzipiell die Möglichkeit gegeben werden, eigenständige Artikel anzulegen, soweit diese OT das Potenzial dafür besitzen. --RolandUnger (Diskussion) 06:24, 30. Sep. 2020 (CEST)

Danke. Was Orte im Sinne von Siedlungsgebieten betrifft, seien es auch ex-Städte/Gemeinden, ist mir das klar. Was ist mit punktuellen Örtlichkeiten und Sehenswürdigkeiten, z. B. Schloss Pillnitz oder Heldrastein, bzw. regionalen Gebilden, z. B. Klosterbezirk Altzella? Wenn man sowas in die Liste hineinnimmt, müsste man eigentlich noch ganz viele andere Artikel hineinnehmen.
