Nachrichten:2015-02-17: Salutation Inn ist britischer Pub des Jahres

Für den Inhaber, der den Pub erst seit zwei Jahren führt, war die Auszeichnung eine große Überraschung.

Salutation Inn in Ham

London (Vereinigtes Königreich), 17. Februar 2015. – Die britische „Campaign for Real Ale“ (CAMRA) hat 2015 das „Salutation Inn“ im Dorf Ham in Südwestengland, etwa zwischen Bristol und Gloucester, zum „National Pub of the Year“ gekürt. Zu den Pluspunkten gehörten frisch gezapftes Bier, gutes Essen, ein Kamin, eine Kegelbahn und gute Mitarbeiter – also schlicht und einfach die Atmosphäre.

Dabei ist der Pub gerade mal zwei Jahre alt. Der einstige Wirtschaftsanalyst Peter Tiley hatte seinen Job aufgegeben, um eine Gastwirtschaft mit seiner Frau Claire zu betreiben. Und von der Wahl war Tiley völlig überrascht:

“For the Sally to have won National Pub of the Year is beyond our wildest dreams – we're totally shell-shocked. Pubs are so important to me that to have our own one recognised in this way is just amazing. We count ourselves so unbelievably lucky to have a brilliant team of staff who are so passionate and dedicated as well as a community of locals who have given so much to support and contribute towards the pub. It is these people that have made the pub what it is today and for that we are incredibly grateful.”

In der engeren Wahl standen zudem die Pubs „The Freshfield“ in Formby (Merseyside), „The Harewood Arms“ in Broadbottom (Greater Manchester) und „The Windmill“ in Sevenoaks Weald (Kent).
